NFL Power Rankings 2013, Week 16: Eagles Compilation

Where do the Eagles rank around the web?

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday at the site I released my Week 16 NFL Power Rankings. But what is only one opinion worth?

So here is a round up of how various media outlets have ranked your Philadelphia Eagles. Let's start by revisiting mine:

11) Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 9) - A letdown game for Philly, but still in control of their destiny. Is this the sign of more struggles to come or can they rebound and make the playoffs?

Blogging the Boys

12) The Eagles may be one of the best teams in the league from the 20 to the 20, but once inside the red zone, they look lost. On Sunday, they were 2-of-5 in the red zone, the Vikings were 5-of-6. That's the game in a nutshell. (LW: 9)

The Phinsider

15) Laid an egg against a Minnesota team they should have easily dispatched. Minnesota has played well lately, but not 48-30 well. (LW: 8)

Mile High Report

14) Record 8-6. The Eagles flopped against the Vikings this week in a classic trap game. I still think they are in the drivers seat for this division as I am convinced the Cowboys will fade hard down the stretch. Nick Foles is controlling this offense rather well and he should land a solid contract extension during the offseason. (LW: 9)

[BLG Note: Foles will not get a contract extension this year. He is a second year player. All contracts for draft picks have a mandatory length of four years. And those contracts cannot be renegotiated until three seasons have passed.]

Arrowhead Pride

11) Eagles (average score)

Cincy Jungle

13) Tough loss to Minnesota's third string running back. (LW: 8)

Big Blue View

12. After making their debut in the top 10, the Eagles drop one to the Vikings. Not cool, Philly. (LW: 9)

SB Nation NFL

16) After a decent run of form, the Eagles' secondary regressed to its early-season clown shoes style of ball and was eviscerated by Matt Cassel and Greg Jennings. A big early deficit and the Ghost of Andy Reid compelled Chip Kelly to utterly abandon the run, and Nick Foles' fantasy-friendly stat-jack wasn't enough to close the gap. In any other division, a collapse to an Adrian Peterson-less Vikings team would be an outright disaster. In the NFC East, though, the Eagles can simply shrug, wait for Dallas to self-immolate in even more dire fashion and then boldly claim the right to get annihilated by the Panthers or Niners in the wild card round. (Last week: 11)

CBS

11) That defense reverted back to some bad ways against the Vikings. That can't happen against the Bears. (LW: 9)

ESPN

11) LeSean McCoy ran the ball eight times Sunday despite leading the league in rushing entering the day. QB Nick Foles finished the game with more rushing yards than McCoy. (LW: 9)

PFT

9. The Eagles would have been better off if the roof at the Metrodome had busted. Again. (LW: 9)

Yahoo!

9. On the bright side, the offense played really well at Minnesota! (LW: 9)

National Football Post

10. Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 9)

FOX

16) Nick Foles posted a career high in passing yards. DeSean Jackson posted a career high in receptions. The Eagles lost by 18 points to the Vikings. (LW: 9)

--------

Analysis: The rankings range from 9 to 16, so there's a decent spread. The average of these rankings is about 12. Moving the Eagles out of top 10 territory is fair game. Moving them down as far as 16 seems a little too harsh, especially when the Lions are still inexplicably ranked above them.

It looks like a lot of people are overreacting to the Eagles' loss to the Vikings. The Eagles have been "exposed!" Feel free to disregard the five game winning streak prior the Minnesota loss. Other outlets didn't move the Eagles down at all, or very little. They're not overreacting to the one loss. That's probably a more reasonable approach.

The Birds will have a chance to move back in good standings with a win over Chicago this week on Sunday Night Football.
