5 random Eagles notes: Biggest offseason needs, key Bears matchups, and more - JimmyK, Philly.com
Slot WR: Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper will both be free agents this offseason, so the Eagles will have decisions to make on them. Assuming they are able to retain at least one of them, the Eagles could also use a legitimate playmaker in the slot. Jason Avant is an invaluable leader in the locker room, but he's leaving plays (possibly big ones) on the field. If the Eagles could find a slot receiver who can also be a weapon in the return game, that would be ideal.
Good Coaching - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
LeSean McCoy is having his best season. DeSean Jackson is having his best season. Foles is playing brilliantly. Riley Cooper is having a breakout season. And so on. When we speculate about other players in this offense, we have to imagine that playing for Chip Kelly would have a serious effect on them. Kelly has the offense doing some historically good things. That’s not an accident. The man is a great offensive coach. And when you factor in the sports science stuff, there is no doubt in my mind he would bring out the best in most QBs. Vick had his highest rated consecutive games in Weeks 1 & 2 this year. This isn’t to say that Nick Foles is the product of a system. Foles is playing really well. Kelly and his systems (on/off the field) are bringing out the best in Foles.
The Eagles Still Aren't Great, But That's OK - Brian Solomon, McNabb or Kolb
The great nine-game run leading up to Sunday seemed to be the defense gelling, but most of it was the horrendous, mistake-prone quarterbacks the Eagles faced. Only two of the QBs the Eagles faced in that span have positive DVOA on the year, and they played one of those in a blizzard. Matt Cassel could easily have been another one of those lightweights, but he did his best 2008 impression, throwing for the 4th-most yards of his career. That came despite the Eagles front seven holding the Adrian Peterson-less Vikings to just 2.4 yards per carry.
Eagles Notes: Jackson is done talking about sideline outburst - Zach Berman, Inquirer
DeSean Jackson said he has moved on from his sideline spat with wide receivers coach Bob Bicknell during Sunday's 48-30 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and he did not sound interested in rehashing the details. Jackson's teammates intervened and tried to calm him down when he appeared irate after a first-half interception. "It's over and done with," Jackson said Tuesday. "Moving forward. It's a new week, new game. We already discussed that."
Jerry Jones doesn’t hire a GM because he’ll just ruin the Cowboys anyway - Andrew Kulp, The700Level
It’s a Dallas fan’s greatest lament that Jerry Jones will still be the club’s general manager after this season ends, and every other season, because Jerry Jones isn’t going to fire Jerry Jones. Not only does the owner of the Cowboys admit he’d just meddle with a proper GM anyway, at 71 years of age, Jones seems blissfully unaware that he may not have all the answers.
Twitter Mailbag: Great Expectations For Foles - Tim McManus, Birds 24/7
Foles was streaky in this game. He was off at times (including in some key moments), then would catch fire. He held onto the ball too long on a few occassions. And, he was operating against a depleted defense that ranked 30th in the NFL in pass yards allowed/game and had yielded a league-high 29 touchdowns through the air. If you were looking for greatness on Mall Of America Field Sunday, you didn’t find it. If you were looking for pretty good overall play out of a promising young quarterback, you walked away generally pleased. As in many things, it’s about perspective. He’s probably getting overly-scrutinized, but the same is true for many QBs across the NFL. Comes with the territory.
Fan Is ‘Selling His Allegiance To The Eagles’ On Ebay - Spike Eskin, CBS Philly
A man named Michael is selling his "allegiance to the Eagles: FOREVER!" on Ebay, with a minimum bid of one cent. There is no bid yet. "I have followed the Philadelphia Eagles with all my heart for two decades. Imagine being in love with a beautiful, majestic woman. Imagine that every day for twenty years, you have learned everything there is to know about her, written songs about her, showered her with gifts, dreamt of her every single night and made her your number one object of affection," Michael writes in the description.
LeSean McCoy Was Giving Eagles Players Cowboys Updates On The Team Plane - CBS Philly
Shady was less than honest about what was happening in the Cowboys game
