Vikings to start QB Matt Cassel against the Eagles

The Vikings have named their starter for Week 15.

The Eagles now know who they will face at quarterback on Sunday. Former Patriots and Chiefs passer Matt Cassel will continue to start for Minnesota, despite Christian Ponder's recovery from a concussion, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Cassel has played well as of late and is the only Vikings quarterback to start and finish a game with a win. He has played in every victory for the Vikings, whether it be as a backup or starter.

Cassel has developed a chemistry with the likes of Jerome Simpson and Greg Jennings this season and has looked good over the last two weeks. He helped beat the Bears in Week 13 and lost to the Ravens due to late failures by the Vikings special teams and defense in Week 14. Cassel is a true pocket passer with limited athleticism, but has a pretty good arm. The choice to start him likely is due his work in recent weeks and the fact that the running game may not exist on Sunday.

The Vikings will host the Eagles at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
