2014 NFL Draft Rankings: Running Backs

Josh Collacchi takes a look at the top running backs eligible to be drafted and who the Eagles could take.

Steve Dykes

One of the strengths of our Philadelphia Eagles is the running back position. LeSean McCoy is one of the top backs in the NFL, and is only 25 years of age. Bryce Brown is a very serviceable backup once he learns to run downhill rather than trying to turn the corner every play. Last week was a good example of this as Brown accumulated 54 yards on seven carries. Brown is only 22 years old. Even 23 year old Chris Polk has progressed well since recovering from his shoulder injuries that decimated his draft stock. Polk was a guy many scouts were high on, but with the shoulder injury, no one was sure if he would be able to continue to be as physical.

Running back is not a need for the Eagles, but a team can never have enough weapons and Chip could take a running back in the late rounds should one be available. Keep in mind these rankings are not final, as there is still a lot of tape to watch before the draft next year.

Some players the Eagles may draft include LaDarius Perkins, Isaiah Crowell or even De'Anthony Thomas if he falls far enough. But it is likely the Eagles sign a few undrafted free agents if they choose to pursue a running back in the draft.
