Eagles Teammates of the Week: The Lethal Foles-Cooper Connection

These two Eagles players are the most recent Teammates of the Week.

Each week here at BGN we are highlighting the Eagles Teammates of the Week. Last week it was the duo of Cedric Thornton and Fletcher Cox. This week, the pick was extremely easy.

Nick Foles certainly had a day to remember in the Eagles' win over the Raiders. He threw for an historic seven touchdown passes and finished the game with a perfect 158.3 quarterback rating. Foles' game gear is headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and he was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Part of Foles' success was due to a great performance from Eagles receiver Riley Cooper. Foles helped Cooper out with some great passes, but Cooper did his part as well. Cooper used his physicality to make catches down field and even displayed great speed running after the catch. He was simply a weapon. Cooper finished with a career performance of 5 catches for 139 yards and 3 TD.

The truth is, the entire Eagles offense really pulled their weight. Head coach Chip Kelly called an excellent game. The offensive line played well and gave Foles time to throw. DeSean Jackson also had a great day, putting up 150 yards on 5 catches and 1 TD. LeSean McCoy pitched in with 80 yards from scrimmage and 1 TD. Bryce Brown rushed for 54 yards on 7 carries and figured out how to run north-south instead of bouncing runs to the outside. The tight ends were active: Zach Ertz and Brent combined for 8 catches for 69 yards and 2 TD. Even Jeff Maehl contributed with a 19 yard catch!

With all of that success in consideration, the Foles-Cooper connection was most lethal this week. Mike Kaye discussed yesterday how Cooper has improved with Foles under center.

In fact, with Foles, Cooper has become a legitimate starter. The second-year quarterback's ability to throw-open his wide receivers and make anticipation throws, has allowed Cooper to excel. This is not all on Foles of course, as Cooper has shown off his speed on screens and post routes, while also getting open in tight spaces like the redzone. He has been a scoring threat during Foles' tenure, as Cooper scored four touchdowns off of his passes. Granted, this is all a small sample size.

I leave you with... Lobbin' Nick and Riley Cyrus.
