Handing out 10 awards around the NFC East - JimmyK, Philly.com
The Bad Side of the Tiebreaker Award: Eagles
If the Cowboys beat the Redskins Week 16, they clinch the tiebreaker over the Eagles on the strength of a 5-0 division record heading into Week 17. The Eagles already have 2 division losses. Therefore, the Eagles will need to go into their Week 17 showdown with Dallas with at least a tie for the division. And even if they are a game ahead heading into Week 17, they'll still need to beat the Cowboys to win the division. Therefore, the Eagles are likely going to have to win at least 3 of the next 5 games, which would get them to 9-7, and one of those wins will almost certainly have to be over the Cowboys in Dallas.
A Developing Situation - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
It takes patience and discipline to bring players along slowly. It would be much easier to throw them to the wolves and see what the guys can/can’t do, but that can hurt the player’s development. Bad habits can set in and they are very hard to get rid of. We see some of that with Bryce Brown. The coaches have made progress on his ball-handling and fumbling, but Brown still has some bad habits as a runner. He’s too quick to want to go outside. In recent weeks he’s shown progress with getting his shoulders square to the LOS and running behind his pads, but Brown is still very much a work in progress.
Any given Sunday: inside the chaos and spectacle of the NFL on Fox - David Pierce, The Verge
To watch a football broadcast is to see much more than a football game. There are only about 11 minutes of actual action during a three-hour game, which means 95 percent of the time there’s something else going on. The graphics, replays, highlights, and analysis that make a football game into the at-home experience millions of people know and love — it’s all from Fox, and it’s all done on the fly. Nearly everyone on the crew says that while they broadcast the game, what they really do is make television.
NFL and USAA Announce Salute to Service Award Nominees - NFL Communications
Howie Roseman has been nominated by the Eagles for the third annual Salute to Service Award, presented by the NFL and USAA, the NFL’s official Military Appreciation sponsor. Roseman was nominated because of his work with local military from bases in NJ and Delaware, hosting military members at each game.
Foles, Eagles About To Hit Hot Water - Tim McManus, Birds 24/7
Moments after drafting Matt Barkley, Chip Kelly stole a line from former coach Sam Rutigliano to help explain why he liked the USC signal-caller. "He used to say that with a quarterback, it’s like a tea bag, you don’t know what you have until you put it in hot water." Quarterback is a pressure-packed position, and there’s no way to know what your guy is made of until he is tested in big moments. That is important to keep in mind as we continue to evaluate Nick Foles. The city is anxious to know whether Foles is a long-term solution for this franchise; whether he can be the guy to lead this team to the top. The answer is that we don’t yet have the answer. We might not even be close to having it. But the next-month plus should get us nearer to the truth.
Young defensive line growing into a force for the Eagles - Jeff McLane, Inquirer
The play of the line has spoken volumes about the work put forth by defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro and his charges. The season has been a roller coaster for the team overall, but the defense has steadily improved, with the line the most consistent performer. There are five games to play and the Eagles' playoff fate is undetermined, but no matter the end result, coach Chip Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman have to feel pretty good about their defensive line beyond this season.
