The Eagles are currently on a bye, but that does not mean that their playoff positioning is set in stone in Week 12. If the Cowboys beat the Giants, Dallas would technically retake the lead in the NFC East due to a tiebreaker. The Cowboys and Giants game could also produce another division contender if New York wins at home. Although that is the matchup that most Eagles fans will have their eyes on, there is another game that could greatly impact the Eagles playoff chances.
The Redskins will host the 49ers on Monday Night Football in Week 12. While the Redskins have been underwhelming, if they can win the game against the 49ers, the Eagles will at the very least be in a wild card slot entering the final five games of the season. This scenario would allow the Eagles to maintain the final wild card entry with a 6-5 record, as Philadelphia would have a better conference record than San Francisco. With a loss, the 49ers would have an identical overall record to the Eagles, as would the Cardinals and Bears if they lost.
For right now, the 49ers are the team most vulnerable to giving up their playoff spot to the Eagles. While it would be nice for Philadelphia to win the division, a larger group of options would give the team some wiggle room. The Eagles are virtually assured to play in the wild card round, whether they are at home or on the road. With the way Philadelphia has played on the road this season, it likely won't matter which berth the team clinches.
