Michael Vick suffered a pulled hamstring during the Eagles-Giants game on Sunday.
Immediately after the game, Chip Kelly told the media that Michael Vick is the Eagles' starting quarterback moving forward if he's healthy enough to play.
Then later on Sunday night a report emerged via Howard Eskin saying Vick would likely miss the Buccaneers game, and possibly even the Dallas Cowboys game on 10/20. An ESPN report from Adam Schefter on Monday morning confirmed Eskin's earlier report that Vick indeed is expected to miss the 10/13 Eagles-Bucs game.
Chip Kelly, however, would not confirm these reports when he addressed the media on Monday.
Yeah, we have not made any decision on who our starting quarterback is next week [against Tampa Bay.]
While a decision is yet to be made, he did give up an update on Vick's injury status. It wasn't necessarily encouraging for Vick's availability but nothing was ruled out.
I don't know if he'll play Sunday. Right now he's day‑to‑day, and he'll we'll see how he goes through the rehab process.
Chip confirmed the Eagles QB did have an MRI, but he said he only knows what the medical staff told him: that Vick is day-to-day due to a pulled hamstring. The Eagles coach emphasized the importance of Vick's health when playing.
I'm not going to put [Vick] out there if it's going to hurt him. That is the biggest thing. When he was in the game and we went back in, they thought he was good to go back in. I watched him try to get away from the rush, and that wasn't fair to Mike. I'm not going to put him in that situation, so we'll see how he is.
Taking all of this into consideration, it seems like Vick's availability against the Buccaneers is in serious question. The lingering effects of a pulled hamstring certainly won't be good for a quarterback like Vick who runs with the ball. If Vick isn't ready to play, second year QB Nick Foles will start in Vick's place.
