This season, the Giants have been a mess as a running unit, ranking among the leagues worst in rushing yards. With the release of Week 4 starter Da'Rel Scott, the Giants plan to use second-year back David Wilson and recently re-signed Brandon Jacobs as one-two punch at this point in the season. The switch from Wilson-Scott (who played like Wilson Phillips) to Wilson-Jacobs comes as the Eagles are set to visit the New Meadowlands Stadium.
Jacobs has extensive experience against the Eagles. While there is a new coaching staff and tons of new bodies on the defense, Jacobs has had 524 rushing yards and four touchdowns against the Philadelphia in his career. However, he has only rushed for more than 80 yards in two games against the Eagles and has faced the NFC East division rival 13 times.
This season, since he has been back with the Giants, Jacobs has been used sparingly. He has just 11 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown. His effectiveness against the Eagles, at least while he regains his football shape, will be on passing downs. He is a terrific blocker and will likely be used to chip Trent Cole, Connor Barwin and Brandon Graham. Wilson is expected to get the majority of the carries on Sunday.
The Giants will host the Eagles at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
