Bucs - Eagles Big Darn Preview - JCDeLaTorre, Bucs Nation
As good as the Bucs defense has played this season they'll be facing an offense that has dominated the NFL. Even against the undefeated Chiefs, where Philly was held to 16 points, they still rung up 431 yds of total offense and rushed for 264. The Bucs can play lights out this week and still give up 400 yds and 20-something points. So the question then shifts to the offense. Can Mike Glennon and his weapons take advantage of a defense surrendering 31 points a game?
Opposing game review: Expect Billy Davis to bring the heat against Bucs rookie QB Mike Glennon - JimmyK, Philly.com
This Sunday, the Eagles will face 3rd round rookie QB Mike Glennon out of North Carolina State. Glennon struggled in his first outing with the Bucs, who lost to the Arizona Cardinals at home, 13-10, in Glennon's NFL debut. I took a look at Glennon against the Cards, and was not impressed.
Talkin’ Bout the Bucs - Tommy Lawlor, Iggles Blitz
Mike Glennon is the rookie QB who has taken over for Josh Freeman. Glennon has good size. He throws the ball well and has a strong arm. He made a couple of impressive throws in his debut. He is a classic pocket passer. He needs good protection. That is complicated by the fact he’s a rookie and it takes him longer to make his reads and get the ball out. He was 24-43-193 in his first start. There were a lot of short passes. I really wish he wasn’t coming off the bye. One week isn’t going to make a significant difference with him, but it should help. He’s had time to study tape and get more mentally prepared for the challenge of being a starting QB.
Wulf's Den: The Eagles On 3rd Down - Bo Wulf, PE.com
Through their first five games, the Eagles offense has converted 32 of its 71 third downs into first downs, good for a 45.1 percent conversion rate. That mark ranks fifth in the NFL this season and would stand as the best rate in franchise history, dating back to when such statistics first were tracked in 1972 (the current mark belongs to the 1981 Eagles, who converted 44.4 percent of their third downs).
Eagles-Bucs Unlikely To Be Postponed - Tim McManus, Birds 24/7
The expectation is that Sunday’s game between the Eagles and Bucs will be played as scheduled despite concerns about a staph infection outbreak.
The Inquirer’s Eagles-Buccaneers Predictions - Inquirer
That doesn’t mean the Eagles can’t have success on offense. Nick Foles is expected to make his first start of the season, but he performed admirably in place of the injured Michael Vick at the Giants and was productive when the Eagles crossed midfield. The Birds have been snake bitten in the red zone. Foles may not be a savior inside the 20, but as long as he avoids turnovers the Eagles should have the opportunity to put up some points.
Scouting report: Eagles defense vs. Bucs offense - Geoff Mosher, CSN Philly
Glennon registered an 18.7 passer rating against the blitz against Arizona, according to Pro Football Focus, so look for coordinator Billy Davis to come after the rookie in third-and-long scenarios. The Cards had success with linebacker blitzes, so figure on Mychal Kendricks and DeMeco Ryans being active again in the "A" gaps. The interior of Tampa’s offensive line can be beaten. Both linebackers were a big part of the pass rush that helped produce three Eli Manning interceptions last week.
Week 6 NFL Picks & Game by Game Analysis - FanSpeak
Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
It is still nearly 90 degrees every day in Florida. Even without Michael Vick, the Bucs better be ready to chase the Eagles offense around all day. The Eagles 31st ranked defense may catch a break with Mike Glennon at QB, as they win their second straight and drop Tampa to o-fer for the season. Eagles by a touchdown.
