Ray Horton could be available as Cardinals hire Bruce Arians

News broke this evening that the Cardinals have hired Bruce Arians as their next head coach. The ripple effect could pry loose a fantastic candidate for the Eagles vacant defensive coordinator job.

Cardinals DC Ray Horton had interviewed for the HC job and was reportedly very interested in getting it. Now that he was passed over, word is he's looking for a way out. Early reports are that Arians would be fine letting Horton walk and has eyes set on none other than Todd Bowles to replace him.

Let me say this... I don't blame Todd Bowles a lot for what happened with the Eagles D last year. He was thrust in the middle of the season to run a defense that wasn't his and was still saddled with Jim Washburn and his wide 9... But even so, "trading" Bowles for Horton would be so unfair to the Cardinals it would make the Kolb trade look like a win for them.

Now, if Horton does come free he would likely be very sought after thanks to the job he did building the Cardinals defense. But if Chip Kelly put his best salesman pitch on, Horton would bring the exact kind of attacking style he says he's looking for.

It's very premature and there's still a chance he just stays in Arizona, but as Kelly looks to fill out his staff, this would certainly be a situation worth looking into.
