NY Jets coaching rumors: Marty Mornhinweg interviews for OC job

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

NY Daily News Jets beat writer Manish Mehta is reporting that Eagles OC Marty Mornhinweg is a candidate for the same job with the Jets and could be interviewing as early as today.

Marty's contract with the Eagles runs through the Super Bowl, but he has been given permission to interview for other jobs in the meantime. Earlier this week the Jets announced that they parted ways with OC Tony Sparano after he and the Jets buttfumbled their way to the 5th worst offense in the NFL.

Of course, the Eagles were the 4th worst... but I think its fair to say there were circumstances at least somewhat beyond Marty's control and he did have some pretty successful years here. The Eagles broke their franchise record for scoring twice while he was calling the plays.

If Marty does get the job in NY, expect the speculation about Michael Vick going to the Jets to hit a fever pitch.

As for the Eagles? The search for a head coach continues...
