NFL coaching rumors: Andy Reid reportedly close to becoming Cardinals coach

Al Bello

If rumors are true, Andy Reid could be named the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals before the week is out. With a pretty impressive resume built up in Philadelphia it was always likely Reid wouldn't have to wait long for another NFL head coaching gig, but this may be even quicker than he expected.

Should Reid head to the desert, he would be reunited with his old protege Kevin Kolb, who he dealt to the Cardinals for a 2nd round pick and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Who knew the 2nd round pick would end up being the most valuable piece in the deal...

Kolb is not the only rumored reunion Reid could be in for. There are reports that if Reid becomes coach of the Cardinals, he'll bring Tom Heckert with him as GM. While he's at it, he could also always bring ex assistants like Pat Shurmur and Juan Castillo with him as well because they're all out of jobs too...

It could be like an Andy Reid nexus of coaching & front office failure!

Seriously though, while Andy clearly lost his way here on pretty much all fronts, he's still a guy who won 130 games and went to 5 NFC title games. There's coaching talent there and with a fresh start I don't think we would be surprised to see him having some success over the next couple of years.

As we noted yesterday, the Cardinals will visit Lincoln Financial Field next season.
