Video: Eagles Retire Dawkins Number

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

When explaining what having #20 retired would mean to this team and organization, Lurie said it was simple.

"Every time we see that #20 in the NovaCare or the stadium, we'll know to give our all at everything we do," said Lurie.

With thousands of fans looking on, the Eagles officially retired Brian Dawkins #20 tonight before the kickoff of their game with the New York Giants.

Dawkins #20 now sits next to Reggie White in the Head House Plaza at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles also will ad Dawkins to their Hall of Fame.

Fans chanted Dawkins name and "Suit up!" as Dawkins addressed the crowd. One fan in the front row wore a half Eagles, half Broncos jersey in honor of Dawkins- and as a harsh reminder of how Dawkins time as an Eagle came to an end.

Here is video of Dawkins speaking to the fans at the ceremony. He is set to speak again at halftime of tonights game.
