The NFL has been counting down to the start of the 2012 season with a series of stats related to the 2012 campaign. One of their most recent ones caught my eye, total miles to be traveled. They added up the total mileage to and from each team's road games and ranked them accordingly.

The Eagles come in with the 20th most miles traveled with 11,730 this year. That puts them nearly in the bottom 3rd of the leauge. Part of that is just division alignment. They'll play the Giants and Redskins twice every year and those cities are just short hops away. But outside of the division, the travel schedule isn't nuts this year. The first half of the year has trips to Cleveland and Pittsburgh, both probably around an hour and a half by plane. The latter half of the year has trips south to Tampa & New Orleans, both relatively quick flights as well. The only real trip the Eagles will take all year is out to Arizona in week 3.

The NFC has a pretty wide spread in terms of miles traveled this season. Dallas obviously has the most (18.486th, 9th most in the NFL) given that they're in the southern middle part of the country and play in a division with all Northeast teams. The Giants have virtually the same mileage as the Eagles with 11,634, but the Redskins have the second least amount of travel time with 7,144 miles this season. The only time they'll ever even leave the eastern time zone is when they go to Dallas.

A trip around the world is 25,000 miles, so the top 3 teams in terms of travel will all be over the amount of miles it takes to circumnavigate the globe by the time the season ends.

Check out the full chart of who is traveling how far after the jump.
