One day after burying his son, Andy Reid is back to work. The Eagles head coach is at this morning's mock game and will hold a press conference following at 11:30am. Eliot broke the story below, but I wanted to share some of my thoughts.
That Reid is already back is both surprising and completely not. You might think a person would take more time in the wake of the death of a child, but at the same time, you can hardly blame the guy for not wanting to wallow in his own grief. The ability to be back out on the football field is likely a welcome respite from what has to have been the hardest few days of the man's life.
Plus, as we've heard time and time again since Sunday, Andy sees this team as his second family, all of whom knew Garrett as well. So its not the same as going to back to any old office.
And he's not waiting to speak either, Reid will hold a press conference following the practice. They will be his first public remarks since Garrett passed. Dave Spadaro said this morning though, that his remarks will likely mostly focus on football and the Eagles' preseason opener tomorrow night.
In the end, there's no way to measure too soon or long enough. It's a strictly personal decision and if Andy believes that now is the right time to be back, then it is.
