The Eagles have announced that they will hold their 2:45 practice this afternoon as scheduled. As I'm sure you know by now, Andy Reid's son Garrett was found dead in the Lehigh dorms this morning. Andy Reid was not present at practice this morning and at the time we didn't know why. When the news finally broke, it was unclear whether the Eagles would hold their afternoon practice.
But the show will go on with Marty Mornhinweg and Juan Castillo running the show. This is really one of those situations where there's no wrong answer. No one would have faulted the Eagles for canceling the practice, but at the same time you can understand how getting back to work could be a cathartic experience. Plus, they've got a game in 4 days and a season less than a month away. Andy designed his camp program to prepare them and I suspect he doesn't want them off that schedule.
"From a football perspective, I can tell you that Andy has asked that we go forward with training camp," said GM Howie Roseman earlier.
Either way, its going to be a pretty sad yet also probably a pretty special scene at Lehigh this afternoon. As we said earlier, Garrett Reid has been around the Eagles with his dad since he was a kid. So not only does the team feel for Andy Reid here, but they've lost someone that many of them not only knew personally but considered a friend. So there will certainly be some heavy hearts out there on the field this afternoon.
If you are headed down to Lehigh today, be sure to let them know that the entire Eagles family feels their pain.
