Instant Observations: Eagles Vs. Patriots - Birds 24/7
Did I see DeSean Jackson make a red-zone catch in the middle of the field? I think I did. Jackson had two red-zone catches in all of 2011. In the third, he came down with a 40-yard grab, fighting off the defensive back on what amounted to a jump-ball. Jackson had four catches for 82 yards.

Vick scare part of Eagles' win over Patriots
Again, Michael Vick went for X-rays after the Eagles' sixth snap of the game. The X-rays were negative, just as in the preseason opener, but again Vick did not return to the game. Nothing else that happened in Eagles' 27-17 preseason win over the New England Patriots on Monday night mattered.

Eagles' Sprint Action: Quick point here on the Philly goal line concept—because I saw the same play from the Eagles back in my career. Align a WR in the backfield, use motion and run the "Spot" (7-Curl-Flat) off of sprint action. And if you are playing Cover 1 (man-free), CBs can panic when the WR is aligned out of position.

Glass Half Foles: Foles shines vs. Pats in place of hurt Vick
The bad: Michael Vick hurt his ribs again, and the Eagles were penalized for 131 yards. The good: Nick Foles threw for 217 yards and two TDs.

Punter note! Mat McBriar averaged 49.8 yards on his four punts. Chas Henry dropped both of his inside the 20 and one inside the 10. I don't think it's a real competition if McBriar proves himself healthy, but it's nice to see that Henry won't go down without a fight.
