Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten is expected to miss at least the rest of the preseason after suffering a spleen injury after a big hit from Rolando McClain in Dallas' preseason opener against the Raiders. PFT reports that the hit caused internal bleeding, but the injury is not expected to need surgery, although it hasn't been ruled out.
It would certainly be a major blow for Dallas should Witten miss any time in the real season, but if fitness fades over the next few weeks as he sits out, that certainly won't help either. More than anything though, I'm just really confused by this news.
Because Jerry Jones' son, in calling out rookie CB Morris Claiborne for not playing through injuries, said that Jason Witten never misses practice.
"You don't ever see Jason Witten missing practice, and he's going on 10 [seasons]. He just won't miss. So, we got to have the young guys step up and play better."
I'm beginning to think Stephen Jones has no idea what he's talking about... Or he's amazing jinx.
All that aside, internal bleeding from a spleen injury is just more proof that playing pro football is like getting into 20 car accidents every weekend. Nasty stuff. As always though, we want our rivals 100%, so here's hoping its not too serious.
