Michael Vick can throw the deep ball.
While this is no shocking news, I was interested to see how well Vick compared in this department to the rest of the NFL in PFF's most recent study on QB deep passing. Like a lot of their signature stats in recent weeks, this research is done on a 3 year basis so Vick doesn't really show up in the counting stats like deep TDs and deep yards (He's only started for the past 2 seasons).
Where it is relevant for him are the percentages. When PFF broke down deep accuracy, Vick scored exceptionally well. Over the past 3 seasons (really just 2) he's attempted 120 deep passes and completed 51. However, PFF have credited Eagles WRs with 9 drops on those attempts. So when they gave Vick credit for the dropped passes (since the very fact that you've determined it was a drop means the QB was not at fault or the DB didn't make a play) his deep accuracy % came in at 50% exactly.
That puts him behind only Drew Brees (53.9%) over the last 3 years. Interestingly enough, Vince Young comes in at #3 on the deep accuracy list at 49.5%. Otherwise, most of the top 10 are guys you might expect to see (Rodgers, Romo, Manning etc).
With a pair of happy and healthy starting WRs heading into 2012, don't be surprised to see Vick trying to pad these deep stats early and often.
