Earlier today we brought you some Maclin over Jackson action from Football Outsiders and commented on how that has seemingly become a trend this offseason. Wouldn't you know... it continues!
NFL.com's Brian McIntyre has been reviewing the cap situations of each team this offseason and identified Jeremy Maclin has the team's biggest bargain. In the blurb, he weighed in on Maclin v Jackson (some of it recycles the FO report).
DeSean Jackson has the $48.75 million contract, but Jeremy Maclin has been the more consistent producer the last two seasons. Over that stretch, Maclin has 133 receptions for 1,823 yards and 15 touchdowns, easily outpacing Jackson's 105 receptions and 10 touchdowns (Jackson does have 194 more receiving yards). Maclin ranked in the top 10 in Football Outsiders' DVOA and DYAR receiving statistics in 2010 and was ranked ahead of Jackson last season as well, despite battling a weird illness that kept him out of the start of last season's training camp.
He says Maclin, who is signed through next season, will earn $993,250 in base salary this season. He'll see a bump up in that final year of the deal to around $2.8 million, which he can add to with over $600k in performance incentives tied to this season.
