The Eagles claimed DE Monte Taylor off waivers from the Seahawks yesterday. This is obviously not particularly huge news. He was a UDFA out of Cincinatti that Seattle waived.
What makes him interesting is his awesome resume.
He grew up in LA and was named all city on both offense and defense. He was also a standout on the track and field team earning his high school league titles in the long jump, and triple jump, and as a member of the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. This is a guy who is now 6-5, 266 and he was winning track titles.
He then went to community college to play football, where from 2008-2009 he blocked 8 kicks and had 5 interceptions. As a DE he picked off 5 passes! And 8 blocked kicks? Clearly it just wasn't fair that this guy was playing at the community college level.
The awesome part of his resume pretty much ends there. He transferred to Cincinatti and had a decent career. Last year he racked up 4 sacks, 4 TFLs and 3 forced fumbles.
Chances are he won't even make the Eagles... but growing up, this guy was the man.
He's also, by the way, the 2nd Monte currently on the team.
