Might The Eagles Trade For Colt McCoy?

Over the weekend, we talked a bit about Michael Vick's future in Philadelphia. Our general conclusion was that his future here actually seems quite secure given the lack of an heir apparent. Unless Mike Kafka lights it up in preseason, there's really not a QB on this roster other than Vick that right now looks like a viable NFL starter.

Like I said over the weekend, there's no Kevin Kolb waiting in the wings. Kolb was taken at the top of the second round, had a couple good games starting in the leauge... There was at least some reason to believe he could be an heir apparent. In fact, the Eagles actually decided to move on from Donovan McNabb because they believed in Kolb.

This leads us to Colt McCoy. It's been reported that the Browns are shopping McCoy for "minimal compensation." Might the Eagles be interested?

McCoy was a third round pick in 2010 and has started 25 games over his first two seasons in the league. He hasn't been particularly good, but he is still young, he didn't have a lot of help in Cleveland and he might benefit from a little Reid/Mornhinweg attention. And if it is true that he could be had for next to nothing, might he better extra QB than Trent Edwards?

His brother was duped by a fake ESPN twitter account on Friday that said Colt had been traded to the Eagles and he subsequently decided to blast the Browns over it. It's not the first time Colt's family has hit out at the Browns, the last time coming when the team seemed to bungle a concussion diagnosis. Combine all that with the fact that the Browns drafted Brandon Weeden in the first round of April's draft and it's pretty clear that these two parties wouldn't mind a divorce.

If it was for a 7th round pick, maybe even a conditional one depending on whether he makes the team... I'd be ok with him competing for the backup job with Mike Kafka instead of Trent Edwards.
