2012 Eagles Draft Picks: LB Mychal Kendricks Selected With The 46th Overall Pick

The Eagles filled a major hole with the 46 overall by taking Mychal Kendricks, LB, Cal. Kendricks. He played both inside and out at Cal, but will most likely play on the outside for the Eagles. Early indications are that he'll enter the competition at SAM.

Kendricks was one of the stars of the NFL combine last month. His 4.41 40 was the fastest of any LB. He placed first in the vertical jump, out jumping the field by a full inch. He finished at the top in the broad jump as well, outleaping the rest of the LBs by 3 inches in that workout.

But he's no workout warrior. He's got the tape and college production to back that off the charts athleticism up. He started every game for the past three years and was named Pac-12 defensive player of the year as a Senior. His 36.5 tackles for a loss are a school record.

Jon Gruden said that Kendricks reminds him of a young Lance Briggs. Bill Polian called Kendricks "the best attacking 4-3 LB in the draft outside of Luke Kuechly. He's bloodthirsty."

Mike Mayock is also a fan of the pick.

"I thought he was one of the most productive and active linebackers in college football. He's instinctive, he can run, and I think he fits what the Eagles do. They have DeMeco Ryans inside. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kendricks outside."
