Eagles Rumored To Be Interested In Laron Landry

It appears as though the speculation train has left the station. The rumor mill is heating up! Other cliches! Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Eagles "appear interested" in Redskins free agent S LaRon Landry. "Appear interested" is probably the thinnest of connections, but hey... that's free agency rumors.

He's one of those guys that you wouldn't really call a "bust," but at the same time has never lived up to his top 10 pick billing. He's struggled to stay healthy, been inconsistent in coverage, but is certainly a big hitter and good in run support.

Plus, given his injury history and inconsistency, he's not expected to fetch big money or a long term deal. It's been speculated that wherever he goes, it will be on a short deal where he can prove that he's healthy. According to Cole, the Jets and Bears are also interested. Cole does say that the Redskins are interested in having him back, but Dan Pompeii is reported over the weekend that he and Washington have decided to part ways.

It was a mutual decision between LaRon Landry and the Redskins to divorce. Landry will be leaving as a free agent. The Redskins made a decision to move on from the gifted safety in part because Landry has not stayed healthy. He still is recovering from an Achilles injury that landed him on injured reserve. Landry did not have surgery on the injury as the team advised him to do. Landry, meanwhile, is looking for a fresh start in a new environment. It is likely he will sign a short term deal.

The Eagles safety situation is still very much up in the air. Nate Allen appears be set at one spot, but the other is hard to gauge. Kurt Coleman seems to be a solid guy to have, but not really a long term solution at starter. Jaiquwan Jarrett never got into the groove last year and really needs an actual offseason. While it's probably fair to give him a pass for last season, there's really nothing to suggest that the team should be relying on him this year. So it could be that the smart move is grab a veteran safety in the short term while they discover what they have in Jarrett.

Could Landry be that guy? After the jump are some of my favorite LaRon Landry moments.
