While Luke Kuechly got everyone excited to see that his athleticism matched his college production, Cal middle linebacker Mychal Kendricks put on the best show of any LB on Tuesday.
He more or less dominated the combine workouts. His 4.41 40 was the fastest of any LB. He placed first in the vertical jump, out jumping the field by a full inch. He finished at the top in the broad jump as well, outleaping the rest of the LBs by 3 inches in that workout.
The only workout that he didn't dominate was the bench press, where he got in 24 reps, which tied him for 11th. That said, it's still only three reps behind Kuechly and the rest of the top 5 LBs.
He's listed as 6-0, 240. Started every game for the past three years and was named Pac-12 defensive player of the year as a Senior. His 36.5 tackles for a loss are a school record.
He played MIKE in his senior year, but was on the outside in the previous two seasons, so he certainly brings some versatility. A lot of scouts had a second round grade on him prior to the combine. It will be interesting to see if his performance today pushes up him draft boards a bit.
