Eagles coaching rumors: Falcons OC Dirk Koetter will interview this week

Check back on our Eagles coaching search rumors hub for all the most recent news.

In his statement confirming the firing of Andy Reid, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie said the search for a new head coach would start "immediately." He wasn't kidding. Fox Sports is reporting that the team will interview Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter this week. He will reportedly also interview with the Browns & Chiefs.

I would urge you to check out our full profile of Koetter, but here are the main points.

He has extensive head coaching experience in college leading both Boise State and Arizona State.

He's been an NFL offensive coordinator for 5 years now, 4 years with the Jaguars and most recently a very successful season with the Falcons.

Koetter is 53 years old, he's clearly got the resume to take the next and is a strong candidate for the position. Of the offensive coordinators we profiled, I rank Koetter just behind Mike McCoy of the Broncos and ahead of Greg Roman of the 49ers. Where Koetter has McCoy is with the head coach experience, but McCoy's track record as an offensive coordinator is better. So far, the only rumors related to McCoy are that he will interview with the Bears this week.

Stay tuned to our Eagles coaching search hub for more rumors.
