Report: Jim Washburn undermined Juan Castillo, called him "Juanita"

Turns out... Jim Washburn was a dick.

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Ruben Frank just dropped a bombshell of an article in the wake of Jim Washburn's firing. Clearly, he was not a popular figure in that team and now that he's gone people are dishing the dirt... I would encourage you to read the entire piece, but here are a few highlights.

Frank paints the picture of a guy in Washburn that had little to no respect for his defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and made no secret of it to his players.

Washburn operated apart from Castillo, running his own little defensive line fiefdom and often either ignoring Castillo or derisively calling him "Juanita" in front of his players, the veteran defensive player said. He was condescending and confrontational and embarrassed Castillo numerous times in meetings and at practice.

Frank says that the fact that Washburn quickly followed Babin out the door is no coincidence.

Babin was all about compiling sacks, never about winning, never about being part of a team, and it turns out Washburn was exactly the same. No coincidence they were dismissed less than a week apart.

But in the end, this really isn't about Jim Washburn or Juan Castillo. It's on Andy Reid. He put this mess together. He hired Washburn before he hired Castillo and forced Washburn's philosophy on him. It's no wonder Washburn had so little respect for Castillo.

Really, everything Reid has done in constructing the defensive staff after the passing of Jim Johnson has been an unmitigated disaster.

Check out Frank's article, it's a pretty thorough takedown of not just Washburn, but Reid as well.
