One of the problems with following a bad team is that who you are about to face and the matchups we'll see just don't seem as important. I have to admit that I've fallen victim to this myself and we've pretty much only talked about the sad state of the Eagles and almost entirely ignored tonight's opponent.
So I ventured on over to our Panthers' blog, Cat Scratch Reader, to see what they were saying about tonight. This is the headline I'm faced with.
How should you feel about a Carolina Panthers victory?
The gist of the article was to ask whether fans would rather see a victory or a loss, with the assumption that continuing to lose would ensure the team at least the #2 pick in the draft.
Their reasoning is really no different than ours has been in recent weeks.
This season has become a disaster for the Carolina Panthers, but you already know that. Wild expectations, paired with poor coaching, bad execution, and abundant injuries has left the organization in its second lame-duck season in three years. It's a matter of 'if' not 'when' Ron Rivera is gone, so the Panthers will attempt another rebuild-- this time with a new general manager, and hopefully some fresh thinking. Yesterday's games shook up the top of the draft order, and now Carolina find themselves within striking distance of the #1 overall pick. How should fans feel about losing now, if it means bigger gains down the line?
Let me be lazy for a moment and posit the same scenario to BGN...

The general sentiment over at CSR is that fans would like to see the team lose. Judging by what I've read on the site and heard from my friends in recent weeks, I expect Eagles fans might be leaning the same way.
So we really may have a game tonight where the majority of both fanbases would actually prefer to see their team lose.
But I shouldn't just assume Eagles fans are rooting for a better draft pick, so I'll put it to a poll.
