You know it's been a bad season when we're talking about the draft in November. Sure, its not new for people to do early mock drafts, but typically I've just never cared enough to look at them. But as the Eagles play out this lost season, us fans can't hope but have our eyes firmly fixed on next year.
Our pals at Mocking the Draft have released their latest 2013 mock and for the Eagles, things seem to play out great.
6. Philadelphia Eagles - Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M
The Eagles have been plagued by poor offensive line play long enough. Michael Vick has long been tagged as injury prone, but given the state of his offensive line, it's tough to blame the injuries on him being frail.
Luke Joeckel is the best offensive tackle in this draft class. He has gotten better each and every time I watch him and managed to shut down some of the nation's top pass rushers. Most of the team's drafting in the top five are set at left tackle, though, so he may slip just outside of that range in this scenario.
Without a real standout at QB in this class, the Eagles get an elite OT falling into their lap at #6. Given the performance of the line this year, it's hard to see a more perfect scenario playing out for the Eagles in April. This would mean that in 2013 the team would be constructing a line from amongst Joeckel, Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, Jason Kelce, Danny Watkins and Todd Herremans. That certainly does seem like it has the makings of being a dramatically improved group.
