When Andy Reid said after the Eagles loss to the Atlanta Falcons that was going to "evaluate" the quarterback position, many felt it was a sign that Michael Vick could be headed to the bench.
Not so fast, said Andy Reid today at the NovaCare Complex.
Speaking for the first time since the embarrassing 30-17 loss to the Falcons, Reid said he never thought about benching Vick, and added that he thought the quarterback played one of his better games this season.
As for why the team felt the need to release a statement, Reid said he wanted to end all of the talk about a quarterback change.
Reid stood behind VIck for really the first time in weeks, saying this is not a "week to week" situation.
"Vick is the quarterback," Reid said.
Of course, as we all know, what Reid says and what Reid does are two different things. Vick said himself after the Falcons game that Reid might be making a change, and Reid has not supported Vick over these past few weeks when given the chance.
Chances are that Reid is trying to throw support behind his quarterback publicly in hopes it will propel Vick and the team to turn things around and go on a run.
But if the Eagles fall to the Saints and Vick has a poor game, look for Reid to start "evaluating" again.
