Eagles vs Falcons score: Philadelphia crushed 30-17

Rich Schultz

It was an ugly afternoon all around at the Linc today with the first touches of hurricane Sandy coming in and the Eagles defense playing its worst game of the season.

There are a lot of stats you can point to that would really encapsulate how badly the Falcons whipped the Eagles today but one for me really jumped out. The Falcons did not punt until there was just over 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. They scored on every single drive up until that point.

Matt Ryan completed over 75% of his passes, threw for 262 yards and 3 TDs. The Eagles did manage to get their first sack since week 3, but it was late in the game when it didn't matter anymore and for the most part they failed to create any pressure. And with time, Ryan had little trouble carving up an Eagles secondary who bit on play fakes all day, committed bad penalties and failed to keep up with Julio Jones.

The Eagles offense didn't any glaring mistakes, but was ho-hum all day. In the end, 17 points isn't going to win you a ton of games. Certainly the defenses' failings will get the headlines today, but as has been the case all year, the offense wasn't good enough either.

I actually have to run before the entire transit system is shut down.... But we'll delve into this one deeper tonight and next week.

It's ugly right though. Andy Reid lost his perfect bye week record and very well may have taken a major step toward losing his job as well today.
