Coming in to camp, right tackle was looking like it could be one of those "problem positions." Winston Justice still hasn't practiced, King Dunlap is well.... King Dunlap, Danny Watkins is a rookie and supposed to play right guard... So things weren't looking great, which is not good news for the position that is going to be protecting Michael Vick's blind side.
So the Eagles signed RT Ryan Harris from the Broncos, a guy who had been growing into a fantastic young offensive lineman until injuries slowed him the last two years. He's come into Eagles camp this year and after just a couple days has started to make the RT position his own and could be setting a lot of our minds at east about that spot. Marty Mornhinweg singled him out for praise yesterday.
"He's been impressive, it's just been a couple of days here, but I will tell you he's an impressive young man. You can tell that he has experience and that he's played at a high level before. He's quick, he's athletic, and he's strong. He's also very smart and it appears like he's a natural football player, so he came in and picked it up very quickly. Much quicker than I expected, much quicker than normal, I suppose. He's been impressive so far, and again, we're trying to find who the best guys are, at the right spots, on the offensive line because we have multiple players who can play several different spots. So that will be important as we go ahead."
This morning, several reporters also noted how good Harris looked.
Les Bowen - Ryan Harris looks pretty darned smooth to me at RT
Jonathan Tamari - Only 2 days but Ryan Harris has looked like a real upgrade early
Ruben Frank - Mathis and Harris, the two new o-linemen, are very solid in 1-on-1's.
And Andy Reid said in his post practice press conference that it should tell you something about his play that Harris has been the first team RT the past two days.
