With the thirty-eighth pick in the 2011 BGN Mock Draft, P_Roach17 selects...
Jake Locker - QB, Washington
After grabbing Von Miller with the 5th overall pick and giving their defense a much needed pass rush boost, the Arizona Cardinals opt to go QB here with the 38th. Without a CBA and thus no free agent/trading options, the Cards need to draft a young franchise QB that can help lead the team for many years to come. They get that player right here in Jake Locker. Locker, at this point in the draft, is a great value pick. Considered to be the possible #1 overall pick of last year's draft, (either him or bradford) he drops all the way to #38 after a poor 2010 campaign. I also heavily considered Ben Ijalana at this pick due to the Cards dire need of an offensive guard, but ultimately found Locker too hard to pass up considering that i have seen him go as high as #12 to Minnesota, and as I rate him a first round talent myself.
Locker is what you would call an excellent physical talent. He brings great size and speed to the table (6'3" 230lbs with a 4.59 40yd dash), and appears to be a great leader to boot. He really impressed with his interviews and athletic ability at the combine, and will soon be able to showcase his talents on the gridiron. There are a few accuracy concerns, as can be said of his draftmate Ryan Mallet, but what sets the two apart is Locker's superior mobility which will be a must when taking snaps behind a suspect offensive line.
More after the jump...
One season of Matt Leinart/ Derek Anderson/ Max Hall/ John Skelton is all that the Cards FO has to see to convince them to pull the trigger on Locker. With the weapons already in place for him to succeed, the pick is a no brainer, and could be the missing piece to Arizona's offensive puzzle.
Next on the clock will be mr_england with the Tennessee Titans.
