On our top ten busts of the Reid era, we pointed out a pattern of second round linebackers on the list. On our best picks list, the pattern might be fifth round picks from Cincinnati.
Brent Celek - 2007 - 5th round
After two modest seasons to start his career, Celek broke out in 2009 with a 76 catch, 8 TD season that landed him as a pro bowl alternate. His numbers weren't nearly as good last season, but his role had changed. The Eagles ran a lot more max protect and asked Celek to stay in and block far more than he had the year before. The positive thing with that role was that his blocking has improved dramatically from his rookie season, where that was a major weakness.
If the Eagles fix their offensive line situation like we all expect, we should see Celek more involved in the offense next season.
