The Sweet 16 of our BGN Greatest Football Movie Of All Time Tourney rolls on after what I consider to be a pretty hearbreaking loss in the last matchup, which saw The Replacements knock off Little Giants by 18 votes. In my opinion, Little Giants is really good and the Replacements is a forgettable montage fest... but alas, I only get one vote like everyone. So we move on today's matchup of a #1 and a #5 seed.
Remember The Titans is one of our four #1 seeds. It stars Denzel Washington and tells the true story of a newly appointed African-American coach and his high school team on their first season as a racially integrated unit. It's a great story with really good football action and lots of really great motivational speeches from Denzel... because what is a great football movie without a good motivational speech?
Varsity Blues is a #5 seed which tells the story of a Texas high school football team. James Vanderbeek plays the backup QB of the team who is forced to play after the starter is injured. Problem is, the backup doesn't really want to play football anymore. Debauchery, whipped cream bikinis, stripper teachers, Jon Voigt yelling & inspiration follows... It also features Vanderbeek's amazing southern accent. "I don't want yer Life!"
