Football Outsiders did an interesting analysis this week of how teams have performed over the first three quarters of games as opposed to the fourth quarter. Of course, no one typifies this better than the Denver Broncos, who have the 27th ranked offense in the NFL over the first quarters and the #5 ranked unit in the fourth quarter.
Although, the Eagles defense is pretty close to that kind of variation. Of course, it's in the opposite direction. Over the first three quarters of games, FBO has the Eagles defense rated as the 10th best in the league. In the fourth quarter? They're 29th.
Not that we haven't seen this horror show play out, but it's still pretty surprising to see that things are that bad.
On the offensive side of the ball however, the FBO findings are kind of surprising. The Eagles are ranked 16th over the first three quarters and actually improve to 11th in the 4th quarter.
The findings also don't bode well for this weekend when the 4th quarter rolls around. The Jets #4 ranked 4th quarter offense will be squaring up with the Eagles #27th ranked defense. So, just prepare yourself.
