Andy Reid played coy all week with his decision as to whether Michael Vick would play tomorrow, but the general feeling all along was that Vick would be out. However, Reid really did sound optimistic about the status of Jeremy Maclin yesterday so it comes as somewhat of a surprise that the Eagles ruled out both players for Sunday's game against the Giants.
That means Vince Young and Riley Cooper will start in their places. Cooper plays the "Z" position in the WR corps, so he's the next guy to slot in after Maclin. So far this season, he has no catches and has mostly been a special teams player. The Eagles will of course get DeSean Jackson back this week and presumably Steve Smith will also see an increased workload similar to the one he got last week.
So when Vince Young makes his first start as an Eagle, he'll have his most dynamic and dangerous WR, but not his most reliable. That said, I think we're all interested to see Riley Cooper get some extended playing time. You can see from his special teams work that he plays very hard and we know he's got great size. So maybe with some more time in there he could develop into a useful weapon in the Eagles offense.
Plus, you know... he was Tim Tebow's favorite receiver at Florida!
