49ers Sign Brian Westbrook To One Year Deal

New, comments

The 49ers have agreed to a one year deal with former Eagle Brian Westbrook. Westbrook will presumably slot in as the backup to Frank Gore. Westbrook going to the 49ers makes a lot more sense than the rumors that had him in a Rams uniform over the weekend. The Niners are a team that at least has a decent chance at the playoffs in the awful NFC West.

With Frank Gore as the starter, Westbrook should be limited to a few touches per game likely on the screens and dumps he was so good on Philadelphia. Less snaps and a backup role should give Westbrook the opportunity to stay healthier.

The Eagles will play the 49ers on October 10th in San Francisco, one week after the Eagles face Donovan McNabb. We wish him the best, except for that game... if he's even healthy enough to play in it.

[Update by JasonB, 08/16/10 7:02 PM EDT ] Westbrook will reportedly earn a base salary of $1.25 million with up to $2.5 million in incentives.
