In a flurry of activity at the end of the Eagles organized team activities, four undrafted free agents were released and one drafted rookie officially became a part of the 80-man training camp roster.
Linebacker Keenan Clayton, drafted in the fourth round this year, signed his four-year rookie contract today. That makes seven of thirteen drafted players that the Eagles have already signed.
On the UFA front, Purdue quarterback Joey Elliott was released, leaving rookie Mike Kafka as the clear winner for the third quarterback position (at least for now). Fullback Chris Zardas was also given the boot - which came as no surprise when he was expected to keep up with Leonard Weaver and Bobby April-favorite Dwayne Wright. West Texas A&M standout Keithon Flemming came into a crowded position at running back and simply couldn't make a splash. Massive Colgate receiver Pat Simonds rounded out the roster trimmings after he lost ground to fellow UFA receivers Blue Cooper and Kevin Jurovich.
The Eagles now have 78 players on their roster, not including the five unsigned draft picks, who don't count towards their 80-man training camp limit. Will we see more roster moves before training camp starts on July 26th? Undoubtedly. There are still a few free agents out there worth giving a look, and there's always a chance another UFA could get his big chance - linebacker Simoni Lawrence just did. Who do you think could be on the Eagles' radar?
