BGN 2010 Mock Draft Pick #42: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New, comments

With the 42nd and final pick of the 2010 BGN Mock Draft, Clyde Simmons selects...

Carlos Dunlap - DE, Florida

I feel honored to be drafting Mr. Irrelevant in the 2010 BGN Mock draft. Without further ado, Mr. Irrelevant in the 2010 BGN Draft is: Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida.

The Bucs need all the help along the defensive front they can get, which is an odd thought considering the defensive front was the Buc’s greatest strength just a few years ago. With the #3 overall pick in this mock (and hopefully in real life in a few short hours) they have already added one player who should help them a whole lot in Gerald McCoy. As good as Gerald McCoy is, they only drafted one of him, not 4, and the Bucs need a lot of help on the defensive front. The other direction the Buc’s could go here is getting a playmaker for their young QB, Josh Freeman. In this mock, with Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, and Golden Taint Tate off the board at #42, the pick of Dunlap is for value and need.

Carlos Dunlap’s character concerns have severely hurt his value, and dropped what could have been a top 10 pick into a 2nd round value. He has the physical attributes that remind me of Reggie White (or dare I say Clyde Simmons??)…Big, Strong, and Fast. He does not have the mental ones, as his technique, especially playing with leverage have been questioned, as well as his work ethic. These are huge red flags, however, athletes as gifted as Dunlap are rare, and with some coaching and hard work Dunlap has star potential.

Thanks to all who participated in this year's mock draft! Look for my recap and results article coming later this afternoon. - Bob_Q
