NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Eagles Top 10, Giants #1?

A big win over the Colts means a big jump in this week's power ranks for the Eagles. They've nudged themselves into the top 10 of every major national power rank. What I had to take issue with though, was some ranks who had the Giants at #1? Let's take a look at the Giants credentials.

After a 1-2 start they've ripped off five straight wins. That deserves credit and it's fair to say that they can only play who is on their schedule, but it's also a fact that it's tough to find even one quality win by them so far. In contrast, any objective fan would tell you the Eagles have at least two (Colts, Falcons). The two chances the Giants really had to make a statement, at the Colts and home against the Titans they lost. They have exactly one win against a team with a winning record, that's the Bears. Anyone care to bet how much longer that team has a winning record?

Let's take it a step further and look at the quarterbacks they've beaten this year. Matt Moore for the Panthers. Jay Cutler for a half, then Todd Collins & Caleb Hanie for the Bears. Matt Schaub for the Texans. Drew Stanton & Shaun Hill for the Lions. Some Tony Romo then Jon Kitna for the Cowboys in a game Dallas was leading until Romo got hurt. Finally, Charlie Whitehurst for the Seahawks. Other than Schaub, they didn't win a full game against an even serviceable NFL QB.

I'm not saying the Giants can't beat a good team, just that they haven't done it yet.. and for me that precludes a team from being called the best in the NFL. After the jump see where the national power ranks have the Eagles and what they had to say.

Our own SBNation.com poll has the Eagles at #10 this week.

Impressive win over the Colts on Sunday. In two weeks they’ll have a shot at catching up to the Giants when New York visits Philly.

ESPN has the Eagles jumping up 4 spots to #8 this week.

Michael Vick is willing to take as many hits as necessary if it means winning.

FOX Sports also has the Eagles up 4 spots to #10

While they closed last week’s game well against the visiting Colts, Philadelphia needs to beat the teams they’re clearly better than such as this week’s opponent. For this team to go far, it must get more consistent play from the defense, especially in the backend.

Real Clear Sports, who takes the average ranks of a number of national polls has the Eagles tied with the Saints for #9 this week.

CBS has the Eagles up a whopping 5 spots to #7

Mike Vick really adds spice to the offense with his legs. His ability to scramble really complements what LeSean McCoy does on the ground. Now they get Donovan McNabb again in a revenge game.

The Sporting News has the Eagles at #9 this week and picked an unlikely player to highlight

David Akers, 35, has been kicking around for the whole Andy Reid era, and he remains an elite kicker.
