It was an historic night in the nation’s capital. The Eagles defeated the Redskins 59-28 in a game where records were falling left and right. The Eagles set franchise records for points in a quarter and a half. When they concluded the first quarter up 28-0, it was the largest lead a road team had ever had after the first quarter in NFL history. In addition, the Eagles set a franchise record for yardage in a game with 593. It was the second most points the Eagles franchise has scored in a single game. The most was 64 points in 1934 against the Cincinnati Reds (yes a football team). The Reds folded as a team the next day. We'll see what happens the Redskins tomorrow.
All that said, the story tonight is undoubtedly what Michael Vick did. There's an argument to be made that we just witnessed the greatest performance by a QB in NFL history. Before you scoff, consider this... Vick became the first player in NFL history to have 300+ passing yards, 50+ rushing yards, 4+ passing TDs & 2+ rushing TDs. He had more fantasy points tonight than any player since the AFL/NFL merger. He finished just 3 points shy of a perfect QB rating. His final line was 20/28 for 333 yards and 4 TDs. He rushed for 80 yards and another 2 TDs. Vick also set an Eagles franchise record for the most TDs in a season before throwing an INT. He has 11 TDs and counting.
After the game, hall of famer Steve Young said that Vick's performance was "One of the most defining games at quarterback I've ever seen."
Even more importantly, the Eagles moved into a first place tie with the Giants in the NFC East. They face the Giants next Sunday night in Philadelphia.
Just a few more notes on the beating, because why even bother recapping this? It was a total domination. Nuff said.
The Redskins did not convert a single third down tonight
The Eagles first play from scrimmage was an 88 yard TD pass to DeSean Jackson. It was the longest first play in Eagles history and the longest play from scrimmage in either Michael Vick or DeSean Jackson's career.
Jerome Harrison had over 100 yards and a TD tonight.
DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin & Jason Avant all caught a TD pass tonight.
Dimitri Patterson had two picks, including one who took back for six.
Kurt Coleman had an interception in his first career start in place of the injured Nate Allen.
The Eagles rushed for 260 yards tonight.
The 59 points the Eagles scored is the most in Monday Night Football history and the most the Redskins have allowed in over 50 years.
