Eagles win comfortably over the Falcons, 31-17

This one was never really close.  The Eagles jumped out to a lightning-quick 14-0 lead after DeSean Jackson scored twice - once on a 31 yard end around, and then again on a 34 yard TD catch from Kevin Kolb.  Jackson's day would be short.  On a crossing pattern, Jackson was hit under his chin by Falcons corner Dunta Robinson, who hit the defenseless Jackson with the crown of his helmet.  Jackson's status remains unknown.

Kolb was stellar in his fifth career start, as he competed 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards, 3 TD's, and 1 INT.  His favorite target on the day was Jeremy Maclin, who caught 7 passes for 159 yards and 2 TD's.  Maclin's first TD came in the 2nd quarter on a catch in the front corner of the endzone that made the score 21-0.

The Falcons made it interesting at the end of the first half.  The Eagles were looking to add to their 21-0 lead, when Curtis Lofton batted a Kevin Kolb pass in the air, which landed in the arms of William Moore.  Moore returned the interception to the Eagles 46, and 15 yards were tacked onto the run because of a horse collar tackle by Kolb.  Tony Gonzalez would finish off the 31 yard drive with a 1-yard TD reception to close the half.

After a Matt Bryant FG opened the scoring to start the 2nd half, Maclin struck again.  The Eagles faked an end around and Kolb hit Maclin with a gorgeous pass down the left sideline, with Maclin racing the rest of the way for an 83 yard score.

The much maligned King Dunlap had a fantastic day, as did the rest of the Eagles offensive line.  Kolb was sacked just once, and often had plenty of time to throw.

The defense also played well.  They limited Atlanta's power running game to just 65 yards on 19 carries, while harassing QB Matt Ryan all day.  Trent Cole registered 2 sacks, and Asante Samuel picked off a pass that went through the fingertips of Gonzalez.

David Akers picked a good day to have perhaps the worst game of his career.  He missed his first 3 FG attempts of 37, 37, and 47 yards, before connecting on a 30 yarder late.

The Eagles are now 4-2.  They play in Tennessee next Sunday at 1:00pm.
