Get used to dealing with hard-hitting safety Brian Dawkins twice a year: he just agreed to a deal with the Broncos, a league source said, bringing some muscle to the mostly athletic AFC West.
The perrenial Pro Bowler is 35 but should have another year or two in the tank. He's the sort of tough and on-target safety the Raiders have been missing for years. As it turns out, they won't have a chance of signing him now.
If this true, the Eagles have some explaining to do.
[Note by JasonB, 02/27/09 5:34 PM EST ] Moments live on NFL Network Adam Schefter confirmed that the Broncos signed both S Renaldo Hill and WR Jabar Gaffney, but said they are still talking to Dawkins, as are the Eagles. He did not confirm this report.
[Note by JasonB, 02/27/09 5:46 PM EST ] Howard Eskin just reported that Dawkins' agent has confirmed that he has not signed yet. He couldn't confirm that it wouldn't happen, just that it has not yet.
[Note by JasonB, 02/27/09 6:25 PM EST ] CBS4 in Denver are refuting the report
Despite a report in the San Francisco Chronicle that the Broncos have reached an agreement with Dawkins, there are no indications that any sort of deal has been done.
The NFL Network reports that Dawkins will talk to the Broncos, but still plans to speak with his current team in Philadelphia.

According to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson, a source close to the situation denies that a Brian Dawkins press conference has been scheduled for Saturday in Denver. Media outlets are picking up on the San Francisco Chronicle's original report -- and Dawkins may still sign with the Broncos -- but the deal isn't done yet.
[Note by JasonB, 02/27/09 7:41 PM EST ] Now the refuting reports are pouring in. Now from Adam Schefter by way of PFT
Contrary to reports linking free-agent Eagles safety Brian Dawkins to the Denver Broncos, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the deal "definitely" isn't done. "He's in the air, on plane, not even in Denver yet," Schefter says.
So after all that he wasn't even in Denver?
