Today the Eagles announced that they've signed TE Brent Celek to a 6 year contract extension that will keep him in Philly until 2016.
The former 5th round pick out of Cincinnati has certainly earned the extension, as he's enjoying a breakout year in what is his first full season as a starter. PE.com has some numbers
Celek is one of the league's top tight ends in 2009 with 54 catches (7th among NFL TEs), 601 yards (5th) and five touchdowns (tied-4th). All of those numbers are career highs for Celek.
Plus, Celek has shown real improvement in his blocking which had probably been his biggest weakness coming into the year. Congrats to him, he earned it. Celek is the second player in as many weeks to get a long term deal from the Eagles, the first being Winston Justice.
Actually, if you had been keeping an eye on the fanposts... A member of the nation broke this yesterday. Thanks to rcpratt.
