It was bound to happen, especially after four out of the five Eagles cornerbacks sustained some degree of injury during Sunday's matchup against the Buccaneers. Now former South Carolina standout cornerback Stoney Woodson can call Philadelphia home - at least for the time being.
Earlier this afternoon, the Eagles announced that they had signed the former Giants 7th-round draft pick and released linebacker Jeremy Leman to make room on the practice squad:
Woodson's addition will certainly make Sheldon Brown happy. Like Brown, Woodson's alma mater is South Carolina where he had four interceptions during his college career. One of them was returned 68 yards for a touchdown against Tennessee.
A seventh-round pick of the Giants in the 2009 draft, reports indicate that the 5-10, 198-pound Woodson showed promise in training camp before he suffered an ankle injury. He was eventually released on Sept. 1 and given an injury settlement.
Leman was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 7 after being released by the Carolina Panthers as part of their final roster cutdown.
That makes two cornerbacks on the Eagles 8-man practice squad. Could this mean a pending promotion for second-year man Jack Ikegwuonu, or are the Eagles just playing it safe for now? Only time will tell.
