Comcast sportsnet reported last night that they had confirmed Stalworth signed a deal with the New England Patriots last night. However, the guys at PFT contacted Donte's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, personally and he denied the report.
Well, we tracked down Rosenhaus personally, and he told us: "There is no deal, and nothing is imminent."
Stallworth visited with the Patriots on Tuesday, and will next visit with the Titans, and then with the Dolphins. No decision on his next destination is expected until the end of the week, at the earliest.
Sources in Boston(and reader sbrownfan!) have reported that the Pats offer is a 6 yr, $32 million contract, with a $12 million signing bonus. That's close to twice the guaranteed money I had seen speculated that Stallworth would get. If those numbers are real, or even close... Stallworth will likely be a Patriot by the end of the week.
I have every reason to believe those numbers are real. The Vikings signed WR Bobby Wade to a five-year deal worth $15 million including $4 million in guarantees. Last year he had career highs in catches and TDs. That's 33 catches and 2 TDs by the way... Before that he had 10 and 4 receptions in his previous two years. If he can get $15 million with $4 up front, Stallworth can get the kind of deal the Pats are reported to have on the table.
