Eagles ink Curtis to 6 year deal

source: NFL.com
Update [2007-3-15 17:16:19 by BleedGreen]: Greenheart found some contract details on NFL.com Adam Schefter is reporting that it's a six-year, $32 million deal that includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money. Sources are saying the bulk of the guaranteed money is in the first two years of the deal and only $2 million of it is in a signing bonus. $5 million is a roster bonus for this year and will go only on this year's cap. Very interesting deal with lots of money early and very little long term risk to the team.

These numbers clearly indicate that the Eagles did not want Donte Stallworth back. This contract would have easily beaten the guaranteed money in the Pats' contract. Curtis has played in all but one game the past 3 years.

This comes as a bit of a surprise as most sources said the Eagles were not among the favorites to land Curtis. Heckert and co got it done this time...PFT is saying that it came down to the Eagles and Vikings and that Curtis opted to come here because of Andy Reid and the track record of success here. Curtis is a mormon, just like Andy... was that a factor?

From the official site.

The Eagles and free agent wide receiver Kevin Curtis have agreed to terms on a six-year contract, the team announced Thursday afternoon. More details will follow. The Eagles had Curtis in for a visit last week and worked hard to get the deal done.

At the very least, it appears our WR situation is set. Brown, Curtis, Baskett, & Avant are the foundation. Now onto linebacker!

Also, Tom Heckert revealed in a radio interview that the Eagles will likely sign a free agent to fill the backup RB role and that they've held discussions with multiple teams about a possible trade for a LB.
