Spikes is done, Jordan gets his shot

New, comment

Takeo Spikes will have surgery on his torn rotator cuff and will be done for the year. In his place rookie LB Akeem Jordan will get the start.

Reid will rotate two rookies, Stewart Bradley and Akeem Jordan, into the linebacker rotation. Bradley will work in as the nickel linebacker and Jordan will start on the weak side in the base formations.

Spikes' spot on the 53-man roster will likely be replaced by long-time practice squad member Michael Gasperson, who can play wide receiver and tight end. Gasperson would be an asset at tight end because Matt Schobel (concussion) and L.J. Smith (knee) missed practice Wednesday.

And hey, perennial camp fodder Michael Gasperson gets on the roster!

It'll actually be nice to see the rookies get a shot to play these last two games. I'll especially have my eye on Stewart Bradley. I'm not sure if he's all that well suited to playing the WILL, but it'll be good to see the 3rd round pick nonetheless.

Also, this makes it pretty obvious that Omar Gaither is your permanent starting MIKE. Like I said the other day, it wouldn't make any sense to move him around anymore if the plan is for him to start at MIKE next year. Obviously the Eagles agree.
